Get To Know: Brian Potter

Brian has been telling stories, whether on the stage or at the gaming table, for decades. After so many tales imagined, reworked, played and told, I'm excited to have Brian moving them from his creative mind to paper. So, where does he get his inspiration? What drives his love for finding new worlds? Let's have a chat and find out.

What's on your summer reading list?

I have been slowly collecting some odd books from secondhand stores. My favorite place to go has a "Blind Date with a Book" section. So I won't know until I convince them to come in for a night cap.

What inspires you to write?

What inspires me most is wanting my children to be more excited to read than I ever was. To help them understand long before I did that a book is a window to another world, and that they don't have to just look through it. Rather they can crawl in (or out) and explore and have adventures while still wrapped up in a blanket with their favorite comfort foods and a door firmly locked to keep trolls at bay.

If you could travel to any fantasy world, what would it be and what would you do?

My fantasy to travel to a fictional world should be met with characters who remind me I shouldn't be there. And the trouble we get into should be a result of me trying to overstay my welcome while making unlikely friends and having whirlwind romances. The kind of place that's difficult to walk away from is the most alluring.

How does it feel to get your first book out into the world?

If I'm being honest, getting my first book out to the world is a lot less important to me than giving it to those who have supported me to write. The ones who've heard me tell stories and dream of this my entire life will get to reread at least one tale just as it is . Which would make it unique from the yarns I've unraveled over the years that change a little each time.

What else should we know about you?

I've had a string of pen names in mind since I was a kid. Different personas I've thought might be necessary to write different kinds of stories. I have interest in writing children's books, thrillers, fantasy, poetry and songwriting. I've never been too concerned about being accepted as just myself. There's a big world of characters to play, and I've made several of my own whose shoes I'd like to try on and walk around in for a while.

We're honored that Brian is trusting us with his stories and look forward to putting the first out soon!
