Get To Know: Brandy Mason
Brandy Mason contacted us after discussing her desire to write a book with Brian Potter, another of our authors. Brandy is an avid gamer and has developed her character in a Pathfinder campaign over the past 6 years. She's eager to tell you the story inspired by this campaign and the world that they've painstakingly developed. From the first chapter she sent we were pulled into the environment and fell in love with her main protagonist, Danni.
Let's get to know a little more about this debut author.
What's on your 2023 reading list?
Well, I don't really have a reading list. Typically when I find myself in a book store I look for the more out of place books. I call them weird books, but I don't think that's a term I like. My picks are the unusual books that are typically independents. For example, one of my favorite ones is a graphic novel about a crow that lives in a strange spooky mansion and it doesn't have any words just pictures to convey what's happening.
What inspires you to write?
I've always loved writing but I never really committed til recently, because I always thought the process was going to be harder than it seems to be. I was scared to share my work with the world, but the Pathfinder campaign I am in really made me want to share the story. Also, an author I met at this fairy festival I went to a few years back. Her name is Nickie Krewson Pennington and she wrote a book that she gave me a copy of called The Poet. I loved the book so much, and I still have the copy she gave me.
If you could travel to any fantasy world, what would it be, and what would you do?
If I could go to any fantasy world, I'd go to the world in the anime called Made In Abyss, and I would rescue my two favorite characters before the tragedy befell them.
How does it feel to get your first book out into the world?
Scary. I know that not everyone will like it. I worry it won't sell, I worry that I have a timeline to get the book finished. I am also excited because I want to share this story I've been part of for six years. It will be an accomplishment I can be proud of when it's done, and that makes me happy.
What else should we know about you?
I love dogs! I love all animals, but I consider dogs to be a genuine blessing in the world. I love collecting plushies and crafting when I have the time. I am an avid horror movie fan, and I love true crime podcasts. Halloween and Thanksgiving are my favorite holidays. Fall is my favorite season and I love tabletop RPGs and video games.
